Damage is evident on the glacis plate and on the turret of the Königstiger. The problem with assessing this kind of damage is that it is not possible to know whether the damage was received during battle or whether it was inflicted by enthusiastic testers once the abandoned tank was overrun by the enemy.

I quality of 35mm images is more than adequate, but I wish I had had digital cameras when taking photographs of all these AFVs in order that I could take thousands of images. On subsequent return photographic expeditions to these AFVs I will use digital cameras.

La Gleize is en route to motor racing circuit Spa-Francorchamps Wikipedia - Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring Wikipedia - Nurburgring and so you often see sports cars and motorcycles visiting the site of Königstiger 213. While I was taking the photographs above, a group of pre-war racing motorcycles arrived.

AMMUNITION

8.8cm KWK 43 L/71 Armor Piercing Round
PzGr Patr 39/43 round for the 8.8cm KwK 43 L/71 Wikipedia - 8.8cm KwK 43 gun of the Königstiger Wikipedia - Kingtiger. For comparison next to it is the regular 8.8cm round from the Flak 37 Wikipedia - Flak 37 "88" , the classic "88" gun, fitted to the PzKw VI Ausf E Tiger. The enourmous size of the KwK 43 L/71 round presents practical difficulties when photographing it. The regular 8.8cm round from the Flak 37 is a straight-sided case but because the lens of the camera is nearer the rim end of the cartridge, the rounds appear to taper away to the shell.
