Swiss LDS Topographic maps
Swiss topographic maps are the finest in the world and they need to be. mountaineers and hikers use 1:25,000 but you can use 1:50,000 if you know where you are going. 1:50,000 is a good size for motion picture location hunting. There is a complete topographic map of Switzerland at 1:300,000 scale which is superb for motion picture location hunting.
The 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale have several series: Winter for mountaineers and ski-tour. Summer of hiking and straight topographic with no other markings. The Alps are a different country in winter and so a summer map would be of little use in finding your way across a glacier.
Swiss topographic maps overlap the edge of Switzerland and you can cover locations in France and Italy on Swiss topographic maps. When progressing south into Italy there is an uncomfortable feeling as you descend below the latitude of Swiss topographic maps and ... into the unknown. The Italians have a saying "Africa begins after Rome" because the south of Italy was backward and Agricultural. Terrestrial television did not arrive in southern Italy until the 1970s, for example.
